Change

26 October 2012

I always think of fall as the season of change... and things are changing. In fact we made a big decision, and transition, today. Any guesses? You may have seen a hint or two on instagram.

Funny Faces

25 October 2012

Sometimes kicking back and relaxing is the absolute best! I love that Noah and I can be silly with one another through anything. He is my rock.

Reason to Smile: I can't believe how awesome (and silly) my husband is.

Scenic Railroad

23 October 2012

Over the weekend we visited Cumberland, Maryland for a fantastic fall train ride. We noted that there were not many young adults on the train (we have to pass around what a great date this is!).  It was the perfect weekend to ride through the countryside enjoy the fall foliage. As we breezed past the trees there were yellow and red hues cast through our windows.

Check around your local area for a scenic train ride. They are definitely a great way to take in some of nature's most beautiful scenes and it'd be a great way to relax with friends or a significant other!

{Did you notice the windmills lining the mountain in the third photograph?}

Reason to Smile: The Mr. and I had a great date this weekend!

Aspirations

22 October 2012

{post train ride}

It's been a while, but it's time for me to check back in on my goals. 101 things to accomplish in 1001 days! Lets see where the list is right about now. {To see a full list of my aspirations click here.}

40. Take a train ride. Mission accomplished!

42. Lose 10 pounds. Not there yet. In fact, I have quite a ways to go on this one since my goal weight is 130. Over the summer I ate a lot and worked out little and magically gained quite a few pounds. Since school started I've lost eight pounds though. So I'm on the right track.

90. Grow my hair out 6 inches past my shoulders. This one is tricky! Every time I get close I want a big change and feel the need to cut my hair. However I'm on a streak with this and I have probably three or four inches past my shoulder. It's the first time in a long time that my hair has been grown out.

Oh, and most exciting? Goal #18 may be crossed off the list in the very near future. Keep your fingers crossed for me. (Curious? Check it out!)

A Support System

19 October 2012

 {via}

This week, while stressful, has opened my eyes again to the wonder of a support system  in your life. My friends and family have been around to talk and listen to me this week and I think talking out my stressors has been very helpful. Never discount the value of close friends in your life.

Now I'm counting ways to say thank you to those close to me. Perhaps some fall gift baskets? After all, everyone loves a yankee candle and some tea.

Last day to enter the giveaway is today! Hop on over.

Halloween Pets

18 October 2012

{1, 2, 3, 4, 5}

We're getting ever closer to Halloween. I just haven't had enough of fall yet. Perhaps this weekend we'll load up on apple cider around here and set some pumpkins out on our balcony. It's getting to be time for pumpkin carving right?

The cute little animals in their Halloween costumes sure gave me a reason to smile. Can you keep a secret? I'm trying to sell Noah on a kitten. Shhh!

And don't forge to enter the Starbucks Card giveaway!

Mid-Week Pick-Me-Ups

17 October 2012

My necklace from Cheerfully Charmed came in the mail and it has me smiling big time! It's a coral color and it really has the capacity to brighten up an outfit.

I picked up Starbucks for my co-workers. You can tell we love our caffeine!

Little pieces of beauty mixed up in my days can make a big difference. I love seeing bits of beauty interspersed with the normalities of a day.

A coworker gave me flowers yesterday morning to brighten up my day. How thoughtful is that?!

Hope you're having a lovely week!

JMU Dukes

16 October 2012

JMU played William and Mary in football this past Saturday and Noah and I were hoping for a good game. We were in luck! W&M took the lead early in the game and it wasn't until 3rd quarter that JMU Dukes had it in them to take back the game and come out on top. We ended up 27-26 and what an interesting and close game it was.

Sometimes it's a great adventure to go back home.

*Make sure to enter the giveaway too!

J-M-U Wish You Were a Duke Dog

15 October 2012

For the first time ever I have a smart phone. Apparently all this working does allow you to have certain luxuries! I picked up an iPhone 5 on Thursday evening of last week just in time for me to head to my alma mater. Since I, tragically, forgot my camera it worked out rather well that I was able to test out the new photograph capabilities of this mini-computer in my pocket.

1 - The mountains as we drove through the Valley at dusk were stunning.
2 - Noah and I met in our hometown after a long day of work to drive to our university. We were eager to get back to our home.
3 - We ate at Festival on Friday night which was Noah's favorite eatery at JMU. After filling up on pasta and crepes we saw Duke Dog roaming the building! Of course I needed a picture with this lovable (and fierce, of course) pup.
4 - Two of our good friends let us crash at their place on Friday night. It was wonderful to catch up with them over fro-yo and watch the 5 Year Engagement. Plus they have this adorable months-old kitty.
5 - Saturday morning was spent at my favorite bagel shop and the farmer's market.
6 - Allison contacted me and freaked out "Are you in town??!!" and we met up for hugs and chats at a Tarbucks (one of those Target-Starbucks contraptions as coined by Noah).

The rest of Saturday was spent at a football game which I'll tell you about tomorrow. All in all it was a great weekend!

Insta Weekend

10 October 2012

While waiting to pick up our apple butter and apple pies on Saturday we decided to head to downtown Winchester and walk the pedestrian mall. We came across several local vendors selling their crops, wines, and bluegrass CDs while strolling. Turns out it was the Bureau of Agriculture's day downtown and they had a little petting zoo, live music, and food lining the mall area.

My mother-in-law, brother-in-law, Noah, and I stopped in at Snow White Grill and ate some food on the patio before picking through the shops. It was a beautiful day outside and a great day of relaxation.

I loved exploring more local foods and shops because, to me, they allow each town to have just a little more unique flavor from one another. It really lends a home feel to a city.

Apple Butter

09 October 2012

One of my favorite fall traditions took place this past weekend. My home church spends an October evening making apple butter as a fundraiser. We sell pints and quarts of this cinnamon and sugary deliciousness. It's always a great time to reconnect with old friends and dedicate a few hours (or many hours) of work to a cause. This year I spent most of my time cutting apples and applying labels to jars. We picked up 24 pints on Saturday morning which make great gifts for Christmas time.

It's an event that lets you feel happy and needed. What a great combination!
